Bethesda MD Landscape Design: 5 Hardy Perennials

If you don’t have a green thumb, here are 5 hardy perennials to work into your landscape design in Bethesda MD.

  1. Baptisia (AKA False Indigo) - This shrub-like perennial blooms in spring, and has stalks with blue, purple, white, or yellow flowers. Other times of the year, Baptisia has a lovely blue-green, pea-like foliage. Baptisia requires full sun, and grows 3 to 4 feet tall. Grows in Zones 3-8*.
  2. Buddleia (AKA Butterfly Bush) - A shrub that acts like a perennial, Buddleia produces fragrant, nectar-rich flowers all summer long. Flower come in white, red, purple, blue, yellow, pink, and lavender. Buddleia dies in the fall, but comes back bigger every year. Buddleia requires full sun, and comes in a dwarf version (18-24” tall) and a standard version (3-5 feet tall). Grows in Zones 5-10*.
  3. Coneflower - One of the most popular perennials in the US, Coneflowers bloom from early summer - fall, and come in a variety of colors: purple, white, yellow, red and orange. As Coneflowers attract birds and butterflies, they are often used in butterfly gardens. They grow their best in full sun, but will tolerate some light shade. Grows in Zones 3-9*.
  4. Daylily - Are easy to grow and really hard to kill; just plant Daylilies in a sunny spot, and be prepared to be amazed. Daylilies are drought and insect resistant, and come in a variety of colors and bi-colors. To have constant bloom and color, plant early-, mid-, and late-season bloomers. Best of all, they make more of themselves, so clumps of daylilies should be divided every 3-4 years. Grows in Zones 3-9*.
  5. Sedum - Requiring very little care, easygoing Sedum tolerates heat, drought, winter cold, and insects. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Sedum prefers sunny locations, but can also grow in partial shade. Grows in Zones 3-10*.

Angies List Super Service Awared 2013

They did a retaining wall. It's perfect. They showed up when they said they were going to and finished the job up nicely. I hadn't worked with them before...I have some jobs in the works, and I plan on reusing them...I would call on them again...
